The red stripe, created by the curve of the “C” and inset of the six-pointed star, nods to Cleveland’s Rust Belt heritage.

The swallowtail shape reflects Ohio’s flag shape and Cleveland’s forward progress.

The blue field symbolizes Lake Erie, a key part of Cleveland’s geography.
the 6-pointed star
The six-pointed star is a nod to the six images on the original flag referring the city’s industry, manufacturing and major port of the Great Lakes.
